Lagoon rooms at Fondaco dei Tedeschi in Venice

disegno venezia

The museum layout design interprets the unfolding of an exhibition theme in its geographical, cultural and atmospheric context. The project, presented at the final stage of an invitation-only selection, interprets the need to organise a lagoon-themed museum space at the Museum of Natural Sciences. The dialogue between the Fondaco setting and architecture, and the permanent geographical anchoring with external references, combine the active correlation (of visitors who will be able to investigate and compare the various types of information on the Lagoon) with the passive correlation (of researchers and scholars who can feed their latest findings into the thematic maps that will be presented in digital form). The first room bears witness to this complexity through a triangulation between the global dimension of the phenomenon and the local dimension laid down over time. The second room allows an interactive defence of native species through a multimedia game. The third room will allow for an in-depth study of the details, design and uses of the historical models, after having met the protagonists of the collection through an interactive interview. In the fourth room, baskets are hung to recreate a poetic composition that can dialogue with the ancient window frames overlooking the Grand Canal and the restored wooden structure. Then, in the last three rooms in the lagoon, various characteristics (horizontality, variation of planes, composition and consistency of colours and materials, the differentiated perception of sinking, the symbiosis between light and sky, sounds) are interpreted by dedicated display elements. At the same time, the formal matrices of the sequential logic of the scientific project, the curvilinear forms of the natural morphology of the boundary between water and land and the presence of soft elements such as dunes, islets and edges breathe life into the design of the platform through their overall composition
