Houses side by side and overlapping on the Baganza

disegno baganza

The project for 13 residential units arranged along the boundary separating the city from the Baganza river interprets the potential of a particularly favourable site according to a reflection on settlement linked to the lessons learnt from Covid 19. The quest for a remote visual relationship with the external perspectives of the river bank and vegetation and the aim of activating a relationship of meaning and use with the internal garden landscapes overlap in the intention to restore houses to their historical values of flexibility of use and continuity with unbuilt space. In fact, this Pandemic made us realise how important it is to have a continuation of the house outdoors for people confined to their homes for extended periods. The project therefore maximises the potential of the area both as a projection onto the Baganza landscape and as enhanced value for the undeveloped areas. With one exception, all the dwellings are served by the internal common area of the courtyard/garden, while all external free spaces on the minimum distance from the boundary are made available to the individual houses. Above ground, the project is organised in a single architecture that is arranged spatially in the shape of the trapezoidal lot, mostly on two levels, concentrating a higher density of dwellings only on the southern side overlooking the Baganza. The low-rise bodies are mainly characterised by residential systems of two-storey houses with gardens and direct access to the basement garage level on the oblique side, and for the two ends of the short side of the area. To the south, the third above-ground level is intended for two residential units overlooking the Baganza landscape, while the fourth houses a single penthouse set back with a long terrace extending the length of the building.
