The architecture is the expected outcome of a process of adherence to an extraordinary context and response to special living requirements. The project for a summer residence in Mare Verde is a synthesis of a series of fortuitous complementary conditions: a place capable of combining the various aspects of the Marche context with the wish of a large family to spend the holiday period together. The project area is located on a small raised crag, a vantage point offering a simultaneous view of three different landscapes: to the east, the Adriatic Sea seen from above between two large oak trees; to the west, the crescendo of the hilly countryside, covered by cultivated fields and dotted with olive trees; to the north/east, the distant but sharp perspective of the historic centres of Numana and Sirolo. The project takes shape as a device for interpreting the dialectic between typology and topology, between house and place. The layout is articulated in the relationship between the distinct nuclei of the sleeping areas and the shared spaces of the living area. Between the high elevation of the front facing the Adriatic and the low elevation of the side facing the hills, the architecture is shaped by reading the context and interacting with the nearby presence of olive and oak trees. In this way, the house introduces a system of differentiated environments that relate to the location through projections and recesses, open windows and windowsills that become benches, providing a variety of situations for privacy and togetherness. The constructive precision of the architecture with its system of successive wooden planes – from the horizontal plane of the external pathways to the vertical plane of the curtain walls and the oblique plane of the sloping roofs – creates a service cavity that is particularly useful for concealing the plumbing and downpipes and for natural cooling of the house in the summer months.
