The project for the integration and acoustic adaptation of the museum system completes the restoration of Palazzo Cusani and the previous set-up, undertaking targeted work for optimisation of the Institution’s activities. Side by side with the creation of a number of showcases integrated into the route of the existing Museo dell’Opera and temporary exhibition spaces, a series of further important interventions were also carried out. The architectural delineation for the Laboratorio di elettroacustica (Label) with the graphics studio introduces a contemporary element into the sleeve of the historic building.

The acoustic adaptation of the auditorium on the ground floor and the Concert Hall on the first floor introduces sound wave breaking elements by placing new architectural forms around the stage and suspending deliberately distinct spatial planes in the air. The need for a removable system for small temporary exhibitions on the first floor of the 16th century courtyard suggested the development of a ductile and flexible design arranged along a continuous exhibition line on the wall between the signage end with an initial counter and the final end with the video. The prospect of showcasing the Institution’s and its president Marco Capra’s extensive collection of music magazines suggested the creation of lightweight aluminium tube systems to be anchored between the floor and chains of the structure from which special thin Plexiglas showcases of varying sizes and with rotating pivots could be hung, allowing great freedom in positioning the elements of the exhibition.

The small transparent showcases on both sides allow the exhibited documents to be viewed front and back. They also suggest an arrangement suspended in space to constitute a set of temporary images against the backdrop of the historic building, its arches, vaults and the fragments of frescoes that have survived to our time.
